I love this look for so many reasons. I did back then – in January when I attended the Valentino Pre-Fall 2017 show in New York – and I still do today. But the funny thing was that that particular morning before the show, a thought crossed my mind – only for a few seconds – something along the line of “is this too much?” I almost never doubt any of my looks, especially not when a look feels so “me”, but the bright pink hair made me wonder… To much pink? To many prints clashing? Is my free interpretation of the Valentino Resort collection was a bit “too free”?
There’s little that beats the combination of a classic houndstooth and metallic. A houndstooth coat with masculine lines pretty much sums up what is my all-time favorite type of coat. And mixing it all with a casual hoodie and this season’s statement bag, well no further explanation needed. All we need right now is to feel free to mix and match the opposite, feel free in our skin, and of course – for my Dutch readers – to VOTE today!
Only a few weeks ago I was completely surprised – I literally didn’t believe the weather forecast when arriving with spring weather – by the blizzard that hit New York on the first day of New York Fashion Week. Yet again, yesterday, I saw people being in complete disbelieve on their Instagram that tomorrow – today as we speak – a snow storm called Stella would hit the city again… But it did. And so did “regular winter weather” hit Toronto too. Somehow, whenever we move houses or cities in North America we have to deal with a snow storm. Which makes me wonder, is this a sign from the weather gods we shouldn’t? Well, no matter what, as changeable as the weather is, so is the place we call “home”. While New York is getting ready for the aftermath of Stella, we are preparing for yet another move… Getting better at it every time!
On days like these, when the outside temperature feels like what my iPhone tells me -20 degrees Celsius, there’s nothing else we can do than stay inside, and imagine ourselves in more favorable temperatures. If it were only a few degrees above zero, I would imagine myself going out in this sunny Chanel Cruise Cuba collection outfit for brunch. Of course with an appropriate coat one top – I’m still eyeing the Balenciaga puffer and waiting anxiously for it to go on sale… which probably won’t happen anywhere near where I live. I’m drifting off, what I really wanted to say is that when it is cold…
What once started as a 60s inspired glitter ankle boot, followed by Courreges in the digital-era, the reinvented metallic Gucci loafer – with block heel – we all wanted in our wardrobes, now has formed a cult of fashion forward women who are not afraid to make a statement. A statement with their shoes. These women are easy to identify: They love to wear the ultimate casual outfit – think; a pair of jeans, a navy cashmere sweater, or the good old white shirt – but then turn everything around by the pair of shoes they are wearing with it. It makes them unique, and one of a kind – something we all should try in an era where digital media often tells us what we should be wearing…
