Let’s start with saying that I love winter in New York, and then I’m talking about when winter really hits, but it’s still sunny. Luckily New York winters are quite sunny, with the exception of some pretty intense snow storms, occasional frost bite alerts, and spending weekends in because there’s no way you can go out… But a sunny winter I can do…
When we moved here, I was terrified for what was coming. Especially with the horrible winter New York experienced just before we got there. I was worried that I couldn’t do good blog photos, because it’s not that I have 30 winter coats to spark your inspiration with, nor would I be able to excite you with funky shoe wear… Then, when our first winter came, and we were prepared for the worst, we soon figured it wasn’t that bad. None of my worries turned into reality. Of course, we had the whole shebang, snow, dangers of frost-bite, and we spend a whole lot of time inside, but what I remember most are those super cold but sunny days, with clear blue skies and tons of vitamin D to soak up. It reminded us of our skiing holidays when I we were young. Those days on the slopes with only snow and sunshine. That perfectly describes a New York winter. So much better than – sorry – The Netherlands, where winter is mostly wet, windy, and cold. Never cold enough for snow though, and not enough days of sun to get rid of that vitamin D deprivation.
Of course, I’m exaggerating a little bit. Winters in Holland have their charm, too , just like New York winters, but until we get to that really cold point, and winter really kicked int, I’m holding on to those hot summer feelings, the burning sun, and great SS15 pieces like those I’m wearing here…
