It feels ages ago since we’ve talked and I’m sorry for that… It all started with a weekend of non-stop work & fun, my mother visiting – which is actually the most helpful situation right now, since we still didn’t find a new nanny – my kids getting their follow-up vaccinations – they did so good though – my own medication that changed, and of course, business as usual! There literally has been no time to sit down and process all of it, let alone write about it! Soooooo…. imagine how much there is going on in my mind, then x 1000 and plus having no idea where to start telling you the ins and outs. But I’m going to give it a try, starting with how much I LOVE this Valentino Pre-Fall 2017 dress. I mean, there’s never a moment I don’t enjoy wearing these kind of insane pieces, but there’s always moments that beat others. This was one of them. Though, the struggle – the never-ending one – of being able to walk in it, whilst wearing sneakers, was real! Very real…
At first sight this very much looks like one of those “dark romance” stories, but don’t let the late afternoon light fool you… Isn’t it amazing how the floral print pops against the dark background – which was basically just a perfect play of light at the time we shot this. Truth is, shooting during the summer is hard. Not only because it’s most of the time too warm to wear anything else than Dolce bustiers, or go outside of the AC at all, but also because the light is TERRIBLE to work with. There is almost no way around it; harsh shadowing on the face, shiny forehead, and over exposed backdrops… BUT, when you play it by the rules and stick to the “golden hours” – which as you can see doesn’t mean the light is yellow, it means the right time to get beautiful images – you get THE BEST shots!!
Needless to say, I’m not showing you this look only because I love how the photos turned out, what I truly wanted is to make my point about wearing floral silky suits, matching sneakers, and/or clashing bags. My love for colors and prints is growing bigger, and I’m here to show you that so much is possible, but it’s all about the right balance…
Searching Pinterest – my favorite place to get fashion inspiration from other time periods – I somehow found myself going from one 70s look to the other. As you know, I love to channel some 60s/70s inspired looks so I this was the perfect opportunity to break down a 70s look and find out what the key styles of this time period actually are, and recreate the perfect 70s inspired summer look!
Take your oldest pair of jeans – like I did with the flared MIH Jeans I’m wearing in today’s post – and combine it with your latest purchase: this Rosie Assoulin top. Voila, a fresh new look you probably never thought off, simply created with a piece from your wardrobe you most likely forgot about – yes, you will have to dig in that closet of yours to find what you will need, but it will be worth it!
Officially I can’t call this a double denim look, but it surely has everything to it to make it feel like one. Double denim has always been my thing… I love to wear it in combination with a retro pair of glasses, or with a cool pair of shades, or simply because it’s a different kind of denim that I like to try. However, what all my denim looks have in common, is the color. As particular I am with bright colors and prints, so am I when it comes to my favorite color of denim. You probably haven’t seen me often with a light denim washing – though I might need to give it another try now my hair is less white blond – or jeans and jackets with those washed out patches on the arms or legs. I like my denim to be on the medium darker end and with enough “blue” in it, which is why today’s look to me qualifies for the category “Double Denim”. Yet recently I kind of feel myself pulled towards black washed denim too… I might have to give it a try soon, what do you think? And of course, I still feel the need to get this Balenciaga jacket. Such a wardrobe staple!
