Slowly, I’m getting accustomed to the idea that yet another year is coming to an end, and we’re spending another Christmas and New Year’s Eve far away from many of our close friends and family. Generally I’m not too sentimental about it – I mean, life goes on – but as mentioned in an earlier article on Thefashionguitar.com, scents/fragrances tend to bring back memories… They can take me back in time… So in the spirit of the holidays, and since we are talking fragrance today, here’s a little breakdown of a few favorite things I like to do in the days leading up to the holidays! Just because it smells so good…
Let’s start with the obvious: Gifts! I carry around virtual wish lists from Thomas and the kids. The notes on my iPhone literally full of ideas on what to give to them for Sinterklaas – Dutch Santa, celebrated on December 5th – and Christmas. Needless to say, my parents, and sisters won’t be left behind either – here’s the part where they should stop reading LOL – because the new Tiffany & Co fragrance I’ve been using since New York Fashion Week, the one I’m holding in the images, is the one that my mom and sisters will find in their Christmas sock this year!! So fresh and sophisticated. I’m sure that if I love it this much, they will be loving it too…
Secondly: Hot cocoa at The Bemelmans bar at The Carlyle – where we also shot these images – and I enjoy frequenting any time of year really. Not only does this place breathe New York heritage, it also has the cutest murals, which bring me into the holiday spirit at any time of year. The corner where I’m sitting represents winter, but when you look around the Bemelmans Bar, you will see all seasons painted on the walls. So pretty. Their hot cocoa is the only one I like; just the right thickness, not too milky, and it smells just heavenly…
Another thing I love to do during Fall/Winter in New York, especially now we live on the family-friendly Upper West Side, is a walk through the park. I must admit, I’m not doing it enough, as most days I’m completely stuck behind my desk, but the smell of trees in the fall, or the cold crisp air during winter is just everything. It gives me new energy and lifts my spirits. And when it snows and the Christmas lights come out… New York turns into a Winter Wonderland.
This post was created in collaboration with Tiffany & Co fragrance!
Huge thanks to The Bemelmans bar in The Carlyle where we could shoot this edit!
