BASICALLY ME

The Line New York Charlotte Groeneveld Thefashionguitar

Recently a Dutch magazine requested an interview, and – of course – I said “YES”, because I love to connect with my home-country when it comes to my work, my life abroad, and motherhood. Yet, when the first draft got to me, I was so sad about the result. It was more a pieces about stereotypical things about women and girls who blog, than what I actually talked about on the phone. I sensed a bittersweet tone of voice, almost as if it was fed by a little bit of jealousy. Now I know for sure that this person never meant for this to happen, but sometimes when we write, especially when you write as a freelancer, and you feel the pressure of creating your own voice, you lose the actual point, and objectivity fades…

So here’s the real thing about me… Here, right in front of you. No glitz no glam, just a casual girl, who runs her own business, wears sunglasses because she didn’t have time to put on her make-up, who doesn’t wear heels on a regular base, who loves her jeans slouchy, is obsessed with color, but doesn’t wear it enough, and throws a coat on her shoulders to finish of almost all of her looks. Just because she feels good about it.

Of course, she also enjoys what she does, otherwise she wouldn’t do it – because it’s all or nothing. She loves to wear designer brands, and is even more excited about trying on new brands. So when she got a box from one of the most desirable stores in New York; The Line, she was ecstatic. Because that’s also still the girl that she is, and always will be. She will never take any of this for granted, she will be excited for every show invite she gets from her favorite designers, and she will work hard to maintain her integrity and own voice.

Okay, what am I really trying to say here… Well, my take-away for today is simple: stay true to who you are, and never stop exploring. Try to visit The Line more often – note to myself too – and make sure colored sweaters like this one from Marni are not just for the occasion. Navy peacoats will always be a good idea, so invest in one that lasts. And last but not least, denim is never going out of fashion either, so expand your collection whenever you can. Oh, and if this is the first time you hear about The Line, let me tell you the only thing you need to know about this store: it’s uber inspiring. Everything you want, they have: fashion, interior, beauty, and great interviews with even more inspiring people…
