I’m in New York. I AM IN NEW YORK. I still can’t believe that I will be spending the next couple of years in this gigantic city. A city that overwhelmes me, makes me feel small, but at the same time gives me that feeling of seizing opportunities. So many exciting things ahead of me… gosh, that is worth getting out of bed for when feeling smashed by a jet lag, one ill toddler, and a baby that – of course due to that jet lag and all other sorts of things coming with change – isn’t sleeping though the night any longer.
Some memorable moments from the past days… I love my kitchen. I love the huge fridge in it, not to mention the insane advanced microwave. I mean, in London we didn’t even have a microwave and I never felt I was missing something. Yet this super high-tech microwave makes me want to ‘microwave’. I even bought popcorn only to test the popcorn function on this microwave. I kid you not. And then, after my shopping trip to my all time favourite store Whole Foods – for popcorn – making my way home, walking from block to block, zigzagging through the hundreds of people also ‘on their way to somewhere’ I stopped at a traffic light, looking up, looking around, and it suddenly hit me… I AM IN NEW YORK. And whilst being so far away from my home country I had a little home-sweet-Holland moment when a bus ‘To Harlem via Amsterdam’ drove by. The light turned white – the New York version of our green light allowing us to cross a road – and I made my way home. New York, my new home.
