I am a huge fan of slippers, so when an opportunity comes that I can meet with a slipper-designer, I simply can’t resist. No matter what busy schedule I have. Hence I went to meet Penelope Chilvers and her staff at their cute little office/distribution center tucked away in Notting Hill.
When I arrived, Penelope was busy with the – still super secret – A/W13 collection, of which I obviously couldn’t take any pictures, but trust me it looked amazing. And so does the current S/S13 collection. A mix of colors, prints, and fabrics, carfully selected by Penelope herself. Sublime silhouettes, from antiqued leather lace-up heeled Caminos to exquisite Dandys and winter espadrille Nonnos in velvets and wool, Penelope has the perfect transitional shoes and slippers to take you from summer through autumn and on into winter. But back to spring/summer now. Obviously the slippers caught my eye immediately, as well as the bespoke slippers (last photo) which were waiting to be sent to their new owners. This concept, of designing your own dandy slipper with your initials, has made success all over the world, from Earls and Lords, to the Alexa Chung’s and their fashion packs. Everyone wants them.
Anyway, point is that I am Penelope’s latest fan when it comes to her slipper collection, and that I wanted to share my favourites with you. I can’t wait to wear my new slippers, which I have actually standing next to me on the table while I am writing this. They look so perfect… Can you guess which ones I took?
