Lightness, grace, and precious delicacy are the traits that define the world of Valentino interpreted by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli. It is inhabited by a female being who is as strong and fragile, consistent and unpredictable, determined and delicate as today’s women. The ateliers of Palazzo Mignanelli, the historic headquarters of the Maison in the heart of Rome, are where contemporary creativity and savoir couture blend in pursuit of timeless elegance spawned by uniqueness, poetry, and invention. A couture object is unique because the talent and skill required to make it – whether it is a T-shirt or an evening dress – are unique. That trait – like a strand of DNA – pervades the Valentino ambiance.
One fine afternoon in downtown Manhatten, spotting the cool street-art hearts by James Goldcrown, followed by a quick stop at Bradley Theordore’s atelier in DUMBO, Brooklyn. That pretty much sums up how I spend my first post-NYFW Friday, and it was truly amazing. I must admit, I was soexhausted after fashion week that the idea of strolling around in Soho and sorts, especially on a busy Friday afternoon, didn’t really spark more than the true excitement of wearing a full Longchamp look – usually I would be the first in line to get out there to see some (street)art… but fashion week brings you down.
While the city starts to cool down, and the wind blows the last summer dust through the avenues, we’re preparing for another beautiful Indian Summer. With the weather not being predictably hot any longer, I’ve replaced my denim mini-skirts for breezy maxi-dresses. Just that little extra that keeps me from feeling chilly during those end of summer days.
Life is about choices, right? So when I was planning my Fashion Month, there was only one other city I allowed myself to pick apart from New York. This was for the simple reason that I don’t want to be away from James and Stella for too long, too often. It’s the working mommy struggle I – and I’m sure many of you – deal with over and over again.
There are days – like these – that I’m looking at my screen, typing, deleting, typing something else, and eventually end up with an “empty” screen where only the photos remain… Sometimes photos do speak for themselves though… Of course I can tell you about my love for Chloe, flared jeans, and big sunglasses, but what’s new? Who would be interested in me stating the obvious, again?
