Wearing a gown on a simple Thursday in October, why not? Needless to say, this is overall pretty ridiculous, considering the gloominess and Autumn chills, but other than that, though, I could not embrace a casual gown on a casual work-day more! There are a few things to consider when talking about wearing a “gown” on a regular work-day, and let’s start by calling it a “maxi-dress”! Though… when Valentino made your maxi-dress, is it not considered a gown anyway?
The biggest change you will see in my “Summer to Fall” wardrobe is the way I use color. For example, during Summer I wear lots of light denim, white, and pink, but during Fall I prefer nudes and (in combination with) black, navy, and burgundy. Denim will always be key, as well as a statement bag and shoe – which are, by the way, not limited to the above mentioned colors. So while slowly working my way through my Fashion Month looks the coming weeks, I rethink and reorganize my wardrobe to get ready for Fall/Winter. I’ve never changed my wardrobe from Summer to Winter as a whole, but considering wardrobe space, I’m afraid I won’t get around it any more. Simply because there’s NO space for rainbow sandals, Dolce dresses, and denim mini-skirts, when I need chunky knits, army boots, and puffer coats. Gosh I’m going to need a whole lot of storage space to make this happen…
This isn’t necessarily what I would recommend wearing at the moment – considering it’s getting seriously cold outside – but what I do recommend, for those sunny Fall days, is to wear pastels, ecru, and blush. The last bits of your summer glow will make you look ravishing in combination with these light colors, and I promise, they will lift your mood instantly.
It’s funny, I’m traveling a lot, to so many different cities and countries, but never really as a tourist. Mostly because I’m there for work, so whenever I’m in New York or Toronto, the two cities I like to call home, I tourist my way around. Just for that feeling of exploring. Though I’ve never taken one of those city bikes, which is interesting being from The Netherlands, and biked my whole life, but I blame the fact that I always feel kind of “in danger” biking in these cities, and of course the heels… So “touristing around” mostly goes like me in my Converse, these 90s inspired Balenciaga FW16 jeans, and whatever the weather allows, on top.
See you next year… Working my way through all the Fashion Week content from last month, I realize even more how much I will miss you when you are really gone, heat-wave. I hate you when sitting outside, like sardines in a tin can, waiting for the show to start, but I love you when I set foot to leave, and my movement creates a flow of air around me. New York Fashion Week in September always seems to come with this love/hate relationship…
