BEST BUCKLES IN THE INDUSTRY

Charlotte Groeneveld Thefashionguitar for Roger Vivier

We all know Balenciaga’s buckle boots. I remember ordering them, with my eyes closed from both the excitement as well as the panic of the amount of money I was going to spend. I wore them with so much pleasure, summer and winter, so over the years they definitely made their money worth, but as with every statement piece, I eventually I grew tired of them. Nowadays they are patiently waiting to be worn again and I must admit that when Balenciaga came with a white version of the boots, it sparked my interest again…

LIFE IN COOL COLOURS

Rosie Assoulin Frida dress Charlotte Groeneveld Thefashionguitar

It’s not a secret that I love to wear color, yet that I’m very specific on which colors I wear. As with finding the right floral print, with color combinations too, it’s all about the right mix. and patterns. It’s a tricky game, and definitely one that always ends – for me at least – with that “underbelly feeling”. I can’t give you a color formula that guarantees success, but what I can tell you is that you have to make sure you pick colors that go with you skin tone. Why? Well, for starters, it will compliment every single cell in your body. It will bring you to life – whereas some colors can make it all go flat… For example, when you have a fair skin, you should definitely opt for a Burgundy over an orange-red, yet, a fire-red will look stunning on you too. Then, of course, there’s always something as “your favorite colors”. It’s hard to step away from them if they just don’t do the trick, but be honest with yourself; as much as you love a color, if it doesn’t work for you, let it go… It’s fine, there’s plenty of colors in the rainbow!

SPEND YOUR DAYS LIKE ITALIAN DAYS

Roger Vivier Viv Cabas bag Charlotte Groeneveld Thefashionguitar

After having spend three good days in Tuscany, Italy, a week and a half ago, I’m obsessing over going back. It literally is one of the most beautiful European places I’ve ever been, and the urge to go back only grew bigger after the huge disappointment of a plate of pasta here in New York… Don’t get me wrong, there’s insanely good Italian restaurants in New York, and I was just unlucky, but where I’m going is that I am anxiously holding on to that feeling of those – oh so short, but so so sweet – Italian days!

SUMMER ROMANCE: THE PERFECT WAY TO WEAR YOUR DESIGNER DRESSES IN THE CITY

How to wear designer dresses by Charlotte Groeneveld Thefashionguitar

For a Dutch person I’m small, or short, but I would never have had an issue with that, if it weren’t for the daily reminder during my young adolescent life – I have two gorgeous younger sisters who have been quite a bit taller than me from since the moment they were born, so to speak. My dreams of being a model that shoots nothing but beautiful Vogue editorials – I know, it was a weird one – shattered completely when I had my first period – I remember that day like yesterday – and I still wasn’t as tall as my sisters… As me and my friends knew back then, your first period meant you most likely aren’t going to grow upwards anymore, so… that was it… besides that, I learned fast enough that being photogenic wasn’t really my strong suit either, so basically a life in front of the camera was off my wish list. Not that I really cared, my interests had moved away from looking at myself, to looking at boys, which was much more fun anyway! How ironic that roughly ten years later I created some sort of modeling in which I was able to wear those beautiful designer dresses without being 1.75 or having the perfect “I’m not smiling” smile: I became a blogger…

MADE IN AFRICA; EDUN, THE BRAND YOU NEED TO KNOW

EDUN spring 2017 Charlotte Groeneveld Thefashionguitar

When one of my long time favorite New York brands came to me and proposed to work together on a little pre-summer project, I was instantly excited. That’s what usually happens when brands that are close to my heart reach out, but this one in specific. EDUN – the iconic, bold, and empowering brand founded in 2005 by Ali Hewson and Bono – was one of the first brands I got in contact with after I moved from London to New York. Not only was I captivated by the amazing designs, but also by the great stories behind it. Let’s put it this way: I remember the first time coming to their showroom, a cold and sunny spring morning in Soho, it was like stepping into a warm bath…
