WHAT TO WEAR AT NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

As always there’re many trends surfacing right before Fashion Month kicks off, and these trends determine more or less the whole street style landscape. For some this might feel like a repetition of styles and looks, and even specific pieces that get just a little too much attention. Some of which we never thought it would stand a chance – the “Ugly sneaker” trend for example – and yet, they are beloved by almost everyone right now.

Less in the spotlights right now, simply because it’s still summer and temperatures aren’t going anywhere cold yet, are statement knits. Needless to say, in fashion we are always a little ahead of time, so right now I’m doing my research on the best Fall/Winter 2019 knits, and I have partnered up with Veronica Beard, a brand close to my heart, to style three of their best ones…

But, since New York Fashion Week is upon us, and all you want is to know what to wear, we combined the two and created three amazing fashion week looks, which will absolutely be street style worthy, and afterwards, the perfect addition to your fall wardrobe!

As you know, I’m the girl who wears dresses with boots, or sneakers. High heels I adore, but I like those with my favorite pair of boyfriend jeans, not with a dress. I’m obviously not saying dresses and heels don’t work, but this is a personal style thing, something that makes me unique. Same for layering knitwear with dresses and skirts. I’m always loved it, and probably will forever be one of my go-to’s when I’m not sure what to wear.

For this collaboration I worked with three knits that are very understated, yet in detail they are absolutely making a statement: The first has a “western” feel with the detail on the back. The zipper allows you to wear it more as a turtle neck and with your hair tucked in, or when open, it’s possible to show of your favorite stacked necklaces. Because the knit has a close fit on the bottom, I thought it would be quite cool to layer it on top of the maxi-dress, which is fitted around the hips as well, which makes the two go super well together, creating a beautiful silhouette. Yet, it would become to feminine with a flat or heel, so a cool pair of Western boots – keep it a bit in this “Saloon” style – was the absolute must here…

For my second look I’m wearing one of my favorite dresses for Fall. The colour is perfect – you know I’m not afraid to wear pink – and the fit super complimenting. It’s a bit tricky with a cab-ride, yet I’m personally not bothered with there’s a little wrinkle in it afterwards. To keep the “cool-girl” vibe and don’t make it too “sweet” I styled it with a pair of those ugly sneakers and sporty sunglasses. They’re not really helping with the sun, but the look cool. Especially with the second knit I selected, which has a strong shoulder and a turtle neck, and therefore automatically gives some attitude to the whole look. Exactly how I think a “sweet” dress like this should be worn: With some attitude!

Lastly an ivory sleeveless turtle neck. This was, I have to admit, a challenge, because I am not loving my arms and therefore often opt for something that is covering at least the upper part of them. Yet, when I saw this little corduroy dress, I knew I had to go for the edgy- girl style. Imagine if I would go all the way cute in a little dress like this, you would probably mistake me for a school girl LOL! Not what I’m after. As with the first two looks, I like an element of surprise, that shakes the whole look up a little, and I think I’ve accomplished that with the hiking boots. I feel this is a great runway look, just add a cute beanie and some retro shades, and you’re good to hit the fashion week streets!
