NO NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS…

Yup, you are reading it right, no new years resolutions. Which totally applies to me and my start of a “new year” – as most people do love New Years resolutions – but for me it’s simply not working. I don’t want to start doing things differently, better, or less, at the start of a new year, I want to do this whenever I feel the thing I’m doing is not serving its purpose any longer, or I’m not doing something I actually should do. I don’t need fireworks and champagne to make me draw these changes down and read them up load to my friends and family.  Of course, I get it, a new year implies a fresh start, which make the timing perfect to change things, but I believe this can be done at any time of the year. On Mondays for example. For me that’s the perfect day, over and over again, to start fresh wherever necessary…

What about you? Do you believe in New Years resolutions? Or are you with me on the same page, thinking there’s always a good time to start doing things differently? And in any case, what are your goals this year? What do you want to change? And what do you want to do better, or less?

I have a little list of things I’d like to see differently:

1. Always shower as soon as I get out of bed. Often I wake-up, get out, have breakfast with the kids, and then start working in my “home-office” in my PJ’s. Once I start working there’s no holding back, which results in me opening the door for the UPS guy – 5 pm – in my PJ’s. As comfy as it is, it’s not a good example to my kids. So yes, mommy has to make her morning routine – except for the weekends – more strict.

2. Clean my face before going to bed. If you’ve read my Winter Beauty Edit last week you know I’m really bad in evening skin routines. Most nights I’m too tired to be bothered. I created another routine, which works for me, however, this makes I’m never able to try and test “night” skin products. So for the sake of trying new things, I want to build in an evening skin routine and start testing all those beautiful products I’ve waiting for me in my bathroom!

3. Go through my closet more often, rather than always picking the things that are in front of me, and re-wear stuff.

4. Write down my brain farts whenever they come up. I have so many ideas spinning in my head at most inconvenient times, which makes I never write them down, and they disappear. Such a waste of creative, so I have to start writing them down, in my notebook or iPhone.

5. Follow my impulses when it comes to trends and buying new stuff. I often decide on not buying something and then feel so sorry for it… I hate that feeling.

6. Read more to my kids. We read to them, but this can always be improved. I guess I have to keep working on my work-life balance to make that improvement. Which is for me the biggest overall challenge: Finding the perfect work-life-balance. Does it exist? Did you crack the formula?

7. Buy a new mascara more often. I always wait too long. Bad for my eyes…

8. Finish decorating our home. Thomas and I have a million ideas, but never find the time to stroll the flea markets, and pick curtain fabrics. We don’t have a decorator as we don’t want to give it out of hands, but this shouldn’t result in not doing it at all.

9. Visit more museums in New York. I tell you, very high on my change-this-list!

10 . Find the perfect addition to my team and take Thefashionguitar.com to the next level. Are you the one?
