My first time shooting a lookbook, my first time away from home after having Stella, my first time having a 14 headed crew looking at me while being photographed. A collaboration with a lot of first-timers for me: Thefashionguitar for Pimkie

You are looking at the result of my trip to Brussels for Pimkie about a month ago. I arrived late at night, and after being dropped off at my hotel, I slept for almost ten hours in a row, which was something I hadn’t done in a very long time at that point, which was in fact a great preparation for the shoot next day. Because shooting a lookbook means shooting a lot in too little time. In my case this meant shooting 14 looks within 9 hours, and there was no space for delay, because I had a train to catch to get back to London on time to feed my baby. Oh and on that note, within those 9 hours there were 3 moment where I had to express – for those not familiar with this, I am talking about expressing breast milk with a special designed little machine, which makes you feel like a cow, but gives you the ‘freedom’ to be away from your baby while you still breastfeed. So that’s what you do when you love your job, but don’t want to give up breastfeeding. Hence, every three hours I sat, tucked away with my little machine, expressing breast milk, ON THE SET! Quite cool, don’t you think?

I must say, I thought it was going to be a very tricky job to get all done within such short amount of time, but the crew around me was incredible. Great make-up, experimental hair – sugarpop, pink, you name it, I had it – and quite nice styling. The pieces from Pimkie’s Summer collection are definitely inspired by what we’ve seen on the runway. But that doesn’t mean anything bad. I like to see it as “giving everyone the opportunity to dress in the latest trends, even when you don’t have the budget to go crazy on the real deal”. So I did a little Wangy, a little Burbs, and maybe even a little Givench. If you know what I mean…

High on caffeine, but properly fed by a great amount of delish food during lunch, I left the studio to head back to London. People looked at me as if I came from another planet when getting on my train with still powder pink hair, but I couldn’t care less. I just had my first lookbook shooting, which was amazing, even though I had to set aside my personal idea of style and go with the Pimkie-way-of-styling. Not that this anything bad obviously, but as a fashion blogger, that’s normally that last thing you do – stepping away from your personal style. All together, a good day, great working with the crew, and a fabulous result, if I may say so.
