HANDMADE FROM AFRICA

Photos by: Elisabeth van Cleef

This outfit is typically me: jeans, t-shirt, jacket, Ray-Ban, and simple shoes. However, something is different… something additional is added to complete this look… Gorgeous handmade necklaces! I received these necklaces a little while ago from Malaika. ‘Malaika Handmade in Africa’ (which is the full brand name) is a collection of handmade necklaces from Africa. A group of independent women, with great eye for detail, make every necklace a unique one. Not one is the same. The beads are made from magazines and newspapers, cut in strokes, rolled-up, painted, and put together into these wonderful accessories. When you buy one of these necklaces, you do not only enrich yourself with a beautiful new item, you also support this group of women.

The website ‘Malaika Handmade in Africa’ is currently only available in Dutch, however, I still think you should take a look at her lovely collection of necklaces, and maybe order one online to support these talented women in Africa! If you have any questions on how to order (since it’s in Dutch) let me know, or contact Malaika herself here.
